What constitutes ‘quality’ in alcohol screening and brief intervention?
Focus is on one section of last week’s matrix cell release on generating system-wide alcohol screening and brief intervention. Responding to concerns that screening and intervention quality can be compromised in the drive for quantity, it asks what ‘quality’ is, when official UK recommendations appear comprehensively contradicted by government-funded research undertaken precisely in order to identify effective practice in real-world settings.
What is quality?
Drawn from one of 25 cells in the Alcohol Treatment Matrix, a staff development resource mapping seminal and key research and guidance on alcohol brief interventions and treatment.
“Succinct, relevant reports leaving me with more hours in the week to work with clients. Saves several hours a month … It is invaluable to me. Matrices join everything up and deliver a kind of bottom line … superb service.”
Dr Sandy Francis, lecturer, Action on Addiction and University of Bath, and psychological therapist and supervisor, National Health Service, England
